Honors and Awards:

Yuxiang Lian, born in a common family of Nanjing city, Jiangsu Province, which is just at the edge of Yangtse River, is the only son of a big family. When young, he presented his special talent on arithmetic and later mathematics. In high school, he has won the Second class award in the National Mathematic Competition of Senior Student (1997), which was one of the only fifty winners in his city. With a lot of honors and awards he finished his high school study successfully. In 1997 he was enrolled as a junior student in chemistry department by Nanjing University, which is one of the three best universities in China. During the college study, he is gradually fond of physical chemistry, especially theoretics and mechanics of reactions. Maintaining B. Sc. degree in 2001 under the supervisor of Prof. Shuhua Li and Yuansheng Jiang (academician of CAS), he obtained an excellent award in dissertation on DFT Applications on Bioinorganic Reaction Dynamics, he graduated from Department of Chemistry, Nanjing Univ. in 2001 as the top two student of physical chemistry division. During his college study, he also served as Head of Propaganda Department of Student Union, Nanjing University (1999-2000), and won the People’s Scholarship for Distinguished Student, Nanjing University (1999-2000).

In 2001 he was accepted by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, C.A.S. as a M.S. student in physical chemistry under the supervisor of Prof. Can Li. His present major interest is on characterization of transition metal species in molecular sieves and mesoporous materials and the application of UV Raman spectroscopy on surface and material studies.

Literature, swimming and music are his spare hobbies.
